A Wonderful Saturday Morning

This morning I drove the alpine loop with my friend Liz. Before we got to the loop, we stopped by Bridal Veil Falls. Man! It was cold. The wind was a lot chiller than I expected. We only stayed there for a few minutes, just enough time to take a few pictures.

Then we drove on to the alpine loop. It was absolutely beautiful. I haven't done that the past two years, and I forgot how truly magnificent the views can be. After every turn, my breath was taken away. My one regret is that I was driving, so I did have to pay a little bit of attention to the road.

I feel like I decided to drive the loop at just the right time. All the aspens were turning yellow and there were hints of red and swatches of green. We stopped at almost every pull-out and occasionally in the middle of the road. :) I can't believe how tremendous the views were.

We drove the loop early this morning, just as the sun was rising. The road was patches of shade and sun. Some vistas initially appeared dark and muted, but once we drove a little further, the sun would burst into the vista and cover the whole view with sunshine.

I know pictures can only partially convey the beauty I saw. Hopefully, these pictures can give some idea of what it was like. The only truly sad thing is that my camera died half-way through.

After the drive we stopped by a restaurant called the Purple Turtle. Liz and I had never been there before, and it was very tasty. I had heard of the shakes before, and I am glad I finally got to experience them for myself. I also had a burger they call the Turtle Burger, and it had pastrami on it. It was interesting, but very yummy.

All in all, it was a very fun morning.
